Working student position: Deep Learning Model for Object Detection

For our CAP Monitoring Team at our headquarters in Munich, we are looking for a motivated student who is interested in a

Working student position: Deep Learning Model for Object Detection

Annually, the payment agencies of all EU countries have to monitor area-related programmes financed from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) budget. CAP monitoring includes checking agricultural activities to verify if farmers are complying with the obligations related to subsidy payments.
This process is monitored using satellite imagery and GAF is involved in several projects providing support for the implementation of European regulations. In doing so, we are continuously working on the (further) development of methods to optimise the quality and efficiency of the controls that arise from the EU regulations.

Your task:

  • Development of deep learning model for object detection using geospatial data

Requirements:

  • Enrolled student in a Master’s degree in geography, agriculture, forest, environmental studies/sciences
  • Experience with Python especially vector and image processing in Python
  • Experience with remote sensing and geospatial data
  • Knowledge of technology-relevant tools, libraries and frameworks such as Tensorflow, Pytorch, Keras, Scikit learn, Pandas, Geopandas, Rasterio, Xarray, Numpy and others
  • Independent working skills and work solution orientated in a cross functional team
  • Pronounced results orientation and strong conceptual skills
  • Very good spoken and written English skills

Further information:

Duration: start of your contract as soon as possible till mid-January 2025
Working hours: if possible 20 hours/week
